hi
i've recently configured snmp on a few of my servers to report on
network traffic, cpu load, free memory, tcp connections, disk partition
usage etc and all's mostly well.
however, a server running FC2 can log the above stuff but i get loads of
this crap in /var/log /messages:
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No page line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No swap line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No page line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No swap line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No page line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No swap line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No page line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No swap line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No page line in /proc/stat
> Feb 22 13:30:02 fileserver snmpd[31899]: No swap line in /proc/stat
ad infinitum...
snmpd appears to be looking for 'page' and 'swap' in /proc/stat but
these items were moved in the new kernel - or something like that.
i've installed the latest version of net-snmp-utils for FC2 -
net-snmp-5.2.1.2-1.fc2.i386.rpm - but i've still got problems.
as i am getting the snmpd outputs i want via MRTG, i would just like to
suppress the above messages in the system log - any ideas please.
once i've got my head around this i'll probably have to ask the list
about installing Cacti, Munin and other graphing tools...
many thanks in advance and all the best
bill
