Hi Ann and All,
I'd like to elaborate the project in my mind in the following. It's
still quite primitive though.
Basically, the main actors in this project I'm thinking are: social
scientists (particularly historians, sociologists or ethnographers),
open source software (OSS) programmers/developers, artists, NGO members
and other interested actors. The OSS technology is important, but more
importantly, it should involve with people's collective memories and
experiences. In so doing, we can motivate a community to take part in
this project - the main point is to involve people from different
backgrounds. In this way, the project is different from the open movie
project. Although we have OSS tools' developers involved in the
filmmaking as well, we engage a community of people contributing to the
filmmaking while the open movie project only brings a limited number of
developers and artist working together.
As to the plot of the film/documentary, I personally prefer collecting
true stories that really link people together, engaging on people's real
experiences. I'm currently thinking of such a plot (inspired by a story
I read yesterday on Guardian: "Fatal Attraction"
http://www.guardian.co.uk/elsewhere/journalist/story/0,,1551547,00.html).
Based on this story, the film would be
- educational: to reduce the traffic accidents in an alternative way
- emotional: because it's about deaths and losing loved ones
- philosophical: because it see every death from different point of
views (some leave a package of cigarette for example), Crossing personal
experiences is very catchy.
- exciting: because there's scenes about driving like racing cars
- scenery: because the setting is in Italy;-)

I'd love to see this draft - can it be shared on the list?
Best wishes,
