Redhat 9. Just replace the bluecurve desktop with something lighter /
faster such as Windowmaker.

WindowMaker is very nice and usable - I use it at work all the time.
Plus it's fast! It runs Gnome and KDE apps with no major problem - you
should really give it a serious try :)
