Dear Co-operative member,

Sheffield Renewables has now launched its Community Share offer, giving
local people the opportunity to fund the development of and benefit from
a hydro-electric generator at Jordan dam on the river Don. The scheme
will be Sheffield's first community owned renewable energy scheme, and
England's largest community owned hydro scheme. Profits will be used to
fund local green initiatives, including more renewable energy.

"Community Shares are a way for local people to invest in schemes that
might not otherwise go ahead, and to be involved in changing our city to
a greener way of living. Individuals, organisations or companies can
invest any amount from £250 to £20,000. Those on a low income can also
invest in instalments," said Dr Mark Wells, a Director of Sheffield
Renewables and also a volunteer.

The Share Offer Launch took place on Saturday 15th September in
Sheffield city centre. As well as learning about Sheffield Renewable and
the Share Offer scheme, attendees heard from Simon Tilley who led on the
development of a community owned wind turbine in the village of
Hockerton in Nottinghamshire, also funded by a community share offer.
The turbine started generating power in 2010 and in its first year had
generated as much power as the village consumed!

Since the Launch, Sheffield Renewables has raised £23,800 which means
that they now have £73,800 of the £250,000 they are aiming for. To find
out more information about Sheffield Renewables and how to invest,

The Community Share Offer is open until December 31^st 2012.

Regards,
