[OccupySheffield] [OccupySheffieldPrivate] public GAs

My statement     'Power corrupts - even those sad individuals who have found their 'niche'  in the occupy camps'  was certainly NOT directed at Nicole!!
I thank Nicole (and others) who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, making things happen.  Do you really think that Occupy Sheffield would have
existed for 3 months without people like Nicole working so hard in the background and moving things on.

The Citadel has not, as far as I am aware, been  'handed over to circus people' but rather a co-operative of arts related groups (including circus!).

Doug, from The Invisible Circus, has led/been involved in many activities of a similar nature - acquiring premises for use by community groups.

If he had not come up with his proposal to utilise the space, for the benefit of community groups,  in an organised, professional way after 21 February,  I believe that we would be evicted by the owner.
There is no need to fight anyone.  If handled correctly by someone who knows what they are doing, there shouldn't be a problem.  The only problem I can see is that some people feel that their voice is not heard and refuse to believe that anyone can do something for the greater good and not just for their own best interests.
I truly hope that this proposed use of the Citadel hasn't been fouled up.

I would hate to think that the Citadel ends up 'squatted' as some numpty on the Citadel Facebook has suggested.

Who ever said you or anyone has no say in decisions, just because you haven’t slept there, is wrong, out-of-order and doesn’t deserved to be involved in a movement where some can physically camp there and some can’t.
Power-craving people, who take it on themselves to make unilateral decisions (SUCH AS NICOLE) i.e. making the decision to hand over the citadel to Circus without group consensus, are just perpetuating negative energy, ‘LACK OF TRANSPARENCY’ and self-serving clique elitism!

I propose: at tonight’s GA that we as Occupy Sheffield vote on whether or not we want to fight for the citadel, as the landlor
d apparently needs to know one way or the other.

Well, this is just what I’ve been able to make sense of so far, in an increasingly chaotic situation.

I'm as confused as most people seem to be!!  Is there a GA tonight or not - I was told that they were Tues, Thurs & Saturday but
this seems to have been changed (yet again)  I know ................ let's have another GA to decide (for the benefit of those not present
at previous GAs but who don't want to be excluded from decision making) and, of course, we have to include everyone in our decisions
(unless you have never slept on camp and then you have no part to play in the decision as to whether the camp remains or not)  I was
told this on my last visit to camp and have come away feeling very EXCLUDED from the 'elitist' group of individuals who seem to be
running the camp.
Mick - you describe yourself as an 'outsider'.  Well, that's how I feel now, even though I have been involved since day 1 and was one of the 'elite'
who took the Citadel on 28 December and spent the following 3 weeks cleaning the place to get it ready for the National Conference!
Now I have been told that I have no say in decision making about the camp.
Power corrupts - even those sad individuals who have found their 'niche'  in the occupy camps.

Is this decision a reversal of last weeks - last published (27th Jan) GA decision to hold GA's on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday?  Will this decision be changed again - say next week to Monday, Wednesday, Saturday? dependent on who runs the GA? It might be helpful to list attendees so people can see who reached 'consensus

As an outsider, its impossible to commit to GA's as you keep moving the goalposts - from what I experienced at the Citadel on sunday - you have bigger issues to consider rather than whether to serve digestives or rich tea with the camp tea? Perhaps its just me, but something is not right and the falling off of numbers seems to underline it. Most revolutions tend to gain momentum, with Occupy its going the other way.
