Hi Jon,

Good to hear that some of you are still keen to carry on in some form!

Thought I'd share with you the success story (so far) that has been the Occupy-inspired Bath People's Assembly. It's a democratic forum for all people of Bath to talk about the local, national and global issues and to find what we can do about them. We meet twice monthly and the meetings are open to everyone, we advertise on all of the local What's On guides and have regular features on the local radio station, as well as the occasional article in the local paper. We've even had local councillors attend, and occasionally invite guest speakers, such as one of the organisers of the local Bath currency "The Oliver" and a councillor from the Frome Independents Group, a local democracy group that now have the majority on Frome council. We currently have several projects in the planning stage, the big one at present being an event for all of the local groups (e.g. Occupy, Stop the War, Greenpeace, UK Uncut, Amnesty, resident's groups, local activist groups etc.) to have a free stall for a day and opportunities to speak to the public, followed by a big meeting where we can all discuss ways in which we can work together (e.g. local environment group may have a project, Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth members could give advice and help out, and resident groups could chip in etc.). Our website is www.bathpeoplesassembly.org and the minutes of our meetings are on there (latest minutes coming soon). Occupy Bristol are now in the process of setting up a network of People's Assemblies and have attended our meetings to see how we do things. The meeting format is one all of the Bath Occupiers are familiar with (hand signals etc.) and it has caught on amongst the non-occupiers.

Occupy Bath are very much still together and we have had several meetings since we left Queen Square, and are looking at launching the "Move your Money" campaign in Bath in the near future, after having found out that Bath Council bank with RBS.

Of course, each camp is unique and, like the idea of camping in the first place, with all of the "Occupy Phase 2" projects going on at the moment it is hopefully only a matter of time before one or more of them catch on - so good with your future project(s) and keep us updated!

Solidarity,

Standing Stone
