[OccupyComms] Important News for Liverpool GA

As I understand it, a plan for the conference has been developed and is ready to be actioned this weekend. We have the School of Ideas and Finsbury Square as two spaces that can be used for the conference, and we can work the meetings around anything that either site already has planned. Most of the logistics are going to be sorted out by the visiting delegates rather than putting stress on the people working from Occupy London.

Despite the evictions and the authorities clamping down on Occupy, if we push ahead with the conference it'll be a major victory for the movement. Even in these difficult circumstances we fight on. Things have been quite hectic in working out where the conference will take place but provided there are lots of people from occupations around the country in London that weekend, we have everything we need to hold those meetings and have our conference.

Also in total agreement Joe, big +1. I'd like to point out also that other conferences get delayed/rescheduled quite routinely, especially when they're dealing with current (or in our case, hyper-current) events. I think all of us here in London feel a little tug on our heartstrings from St. Paul's in light of what's going on, and our I know personally I wouldn't be in the right headspace for the conference even if all the logistics were cleanly worked out.

I like your take on that Joe. I would definitely be up for a major national conference down here soon, when people are able to organize in advance. But agree that if some people are coming then the assemblies will be all the better for it.

Keep it lit

I can see both sides to this.

Really respect the positivity and desire to make things happen.

If the School of Ideas crew and occupiers think they can fit more things in this weekend, (and existing events/speakers are cool with it) and if people can be around this weekend to discuss the problems of our time, propose future steps and work on active projects then go for it!

I guess be aware that lots of people would love to be at a UK National Occupy Conference in London, just not this weekend at such short notice.
We should be aware of how we "call" these national conferences too. A location is suggested by anyone; that occupation then passes the idea through their General Assembly. If people there want to do it, we should ask the other UK occupations what they think of the proposal. It's a national call out. Get a national temperature check.

In this weekend's case I think people will come to London, but not as many as we might have had if we could prepare more. If people at the School of Ideas want to hold assemblies discussing agenda points from the working agenda pad<https://pad.riseup.net/p/Liverpool> then that's great! Go Occupy 2.0! Calling it a UK National Conference might be a bit of a stretch though, depending on who else can make it. Maybe other occupations around the UK who can't make it down can still discuss a national agenda this weekend at their assemblies too.

Unstoppable solidarity,

Joe

PS Since Tina wrote this, the appeals have been turned down. So, a major eviction of St Paul's expected at any time followed by a 'deep cleanse'. And there are several events at School Of Ideas already booked.

I agree with Tina on this. There are several events booked at school of ideas and little time to make preparations to provide for delegates and to provide a cohesive agenda for a national conference.

Hi folks!
dont know whether this is relevant:
but here is an all weekend event in Edinburgh that is hanging in midair right now
a training workshop in Compassionate Communication
as some people had to pull out
we need to know tonight whether there are at least 4 more takers to give the go-ahead to tutor tonight.

It is a unique opportunity, and is not dependant on how much (if any) money you can contribute to your participating, but is only dependant on your heart saying yes to going on a journey for this with other fellow activists.

This training course is part of the action outcome of the group that met on Bute beginning of January, and who had consensus that compassionate communication capacities are key to system change success for Occupy local and global... and it was decided to give activists training opportunity in NVC as a much appraised form of peace and power-with tool , creating the enabling conditions for win win situations.

Course has become part of wider wee project linking also in with love economy practises.

let me know quickly if you would be free to consider participation, please ;-)

PS. Please also note this weekend's schedule for School of Ideas.

Again, speakers and events have been booked far in advance and would not be easy to reschedule.

To all those making statements about St Paul's hosting the national occupy meeting this weekend:

Please be aware that

(a) following this morning's appeal dismissals we may not have access to the site (there are rumours circulating it may be cordoned off for "deep cleaning") and

(b) if it is available, there are other events that take precedence over the national occupy meeting, as they have been booked earlier.

One such example is a panel discussion to be held by various academics on the subject of Greece and the second bailout.

I have started receiving e-mails from other occupations regarding the status of this month's national assembly. I don't know how many people have already either bought tickets to travel to Liverpool or are contemplating traveling to London, how many have spent time and energy thinking about the agenda etc.

What I would like to request is that in the future, more responsibility is shown and consideration given towards everyone's time and resources by the people volunteering to hold and organise these meetings.

OK! Occupy Liverpool has decided they won't hold the national conference this weekend and that it should be moved to London, School of Ideas.
Some people in London think it is too soon to prepare in 2 days, some others think it might be pulled...
So?

Hi
Good news I'll put it to the group tonight. I imagine they'll go for that option with the building. But they need to make that decision. Can I have the number for this guy to talk to him, he may want to attend today's GA as well.

Regards Omar.

Hey Omar,
How are you?
I finally got good news for you.
Greg who is an activist/artist based in Liverpool for the 5 last years, has been contacted by Symon from Occupy Birmingham and he has agreed to give us a building to accommodate people and hold the meetings during the national conference. This is building has wifi access and presents the security we need to work together.
So, I am sending the options at the moment so you are full informed to make a decision in the GA tonight:

1. Does Occupy Liverpool wants to hold the national conference this weekend, according to the agenda proposed in occupywiki?
2. If the answer is yes, will it help you to have access to this building proposed by Greg and based yourself there for the duration of the conference and receive the national occupations?
3. If the answer is no, will you feel comfortable with moving the conference to London in the School of Ideas?

Best and keep me posted as soon as you make a decision!
If you need more info about the building in Liverpool, you can call Symon on: 07954682806
Best wishes!
