[meersbrook-house] public meeting organisers

Hi, I would agree with lots of the sentiment voiced today. Essentially its early stages and currently no group has any mandate to represent the community's viewpoint. The public meeting is one way of addressing this. Electing a management committee is the next step. Consultation is also a key step. The white lion meeting is to organise the public meeting. There is one two weeks later to organise the next steps which I guess will include electing a committee and how everyone would expect that committee to behave in order to be representing the community voice. Its encouraging that so many people want to be involved and I am sure that we are taking slow steps towards having a dynamic representative engaging group to come up with ideas and solutions.
Onwards and upwards Meersbrook people! Moira

Hi Kaktus Sorry you are feeling fed up with the emails. I think the number of emails going around reflect the mood that people don’t feel the two meetings held so far have done what you say and I think it is very important that we address this. Hopefully we can get these issues decided soon and then move forward together in securing a brilliant building within the park for the whole community to use. Subject: Re: [meersbrook-house] public meeting organisers Hi all,I am getting fed up with the arguments about issues that we have already decided on.The meetings have clearly decided that; 1. We need to have working groups of a manageable size. This has been set up. 2. The object of what we are doing is to get a well attended well organised public meeting in September at which hopefully the organisation will be set up by voting in officers, starting to agree a constitution etc. This is has been agreed.Lets start listening to each other.Kaktus Leach Date: Sat, 28 Jun 2014 18:24:20 +0100

Subject: Re: [meersbrook-house] public meeting organisersExactly my thoughts on the matter, put quite succinctly. On 28 June 2014 17:50, Rob Stephens <rob.stephens2 at btinternet.com> wrote:Hi all I will be attending the smaller meeting on the 2 July. Looking a the flow of emails over the last few days I agree that all minutes of all meetings should be published in a variety of formats and be accessible to the community. However I think In order for this project to move forward and ultimately be successful I believe that a smaller management committee needs to be formed of up to 10 people. Public meetings of around 20-30 people are brilliant for generating ideas and enthusiasm and these should continue on a regular basis. But public meetings with a semi transient membership will not ultimately achieve the objects of the community and there is a danger that if we continue without clear direction the council will just what it pleases and we won't be ready to stop them. I do think the members of a management committee need to be elected at an open public meeting to make sure this a democratically elected body. Ultimately the committee will derive it's legitimacy from the community and should report on a regular basis on what it is doing. Look forward to continuing this discussion further. Best wishesRob

Not just for not being in attendance for when it was decided to have the meeting on 2nd but also that I do not feel any meeting should be restricted. Any restriction makes it ‘undemocratic' and gets into issues that we already have with the SCC on having secret meetings. I fully do not agree with Kaktus view, yet willing to consider some compromise that I will think about coming up with of course open to anyone that can think of a compromise. Cc: From what I can remember, and now that Kate can't make it I think there will be 6 people next week, though I'd recall all the names. I can confirm that I am intending to attend. I think your skills will be v. useful at this point. I don't think it will work with more than 6 so I will bow out if there are too many. I think its really hard to get business done and not just have an (albeit interesting) discussion when there are lots of interested people involved. I have lots of skills linked to public engagement, consultation (including previous consultation results), funding bids and constitution development which i am happy to throw into the mix when needed.
thanks!

Cc: I have booked a couple of tables in the 'small snug' for next Wednesday (in my name). They can turn off the speakers in that part, if we request that when we get there. There is a pub quiz starting at 9.30 and there are regulars who use this space, but I said we'd be done by 9, I thought it would help keep us focused! See you in White Lion next week. RhianOn 19 Jun 2014 21:36, "Laura Holmes" <laura at b4wd.org.uk> wrote:Hi Rob,

These sound like really important items for discussion at the full steering group meeting on the 9th. My understanding of the meeting on the 2nd is that it is to talk about planning the public meeting in September so that we can make the best use of everyone’s time and gather as much info as possible – so am thinking the agenda will be limited to things like, aims of the public meeting and the activities and discussions that are needed to allow everyone to have their say.

Cheers,
Laura.

Subject: Re: [meersbrook-house] public meeting organisers Hi Happy to meet in the pub on this occasion, provided we aren't excluding anyone. Can I suggest a couple of items for the agenda?1. Focus of the group? Is it to secure a useable and accessible community building for the whole community, situated in the park or is it about about preserving an old building? It maybe feasible to do both?2. Structure of the group - there needs to be a management/executive committee formed with functions and decision making powers delegated to it by the steering committee. It's not feasible to manage this through group meetings of 20-25 people.3. Anyone taking on a role I.e chairing the steering committee should be elected to that role by the rest of the group. ThanksRob

Would be willing to put an agenda together and chair this meeting if everyone else who has volunteered for this group is happy for me to do so?
Cheers,
Laura

Subject: RE: [meersbrook-house] public meeting organisers I think a change of venue is a great idea, it gets a bit hectic at the pavilion.Any suggestions about a venue? We could meet at the walled gardenas it is certainly peaceful there and there is a choice of being indoors oroutdoors. I would also be happy in a pub.Kaktus> From: laura at b4wd.org.uk
