Heya,

Please see some helpful comments from Liz on the starter process and the website below. They also sent the below ideas for a starter pack:

Starter pack for CASH newbies:

- docu containing lingo that they are gonna hear and maybe not fully understand/useful lingo such as Community Land Trust, co-operative, the 7 co-operative principles, non-hierarchical, assets, EDI

- docu talking about the areas you can get involved in

- reference point for nice documentaries:
Sanford 1974 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKBKBbbmups&t=4s
Workers co-op in USA - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G1-SYMatNc
Brixton Energy co-op - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHP093x7aRM

- clearer timeline of CASH history, projects

- local co-ops in the area

Thanks

Herta

Guess it depends on how serious you want future inductions to be).

For new people, I don’t think that’s the best way to go about expressing an opinion like that but I totally get that pronouns are extremely limiting!!! We were texting so messages get misread, but in general I think more consideration should be given when approaching this topic. Also, baseline inclusivity for GNC folk is to welcome the sharing of pronouns which is often overlooked in EDI content because the focus is usually on racial constructs/unconscious bias but I am going to make an assumption there aren’t that many GNC folk in cash.

I really like what CASH is doing and in general, I align a lot with the cash vibe lol.

I wasn’t saying ‘don’t tell people its complex and there’s lots to learn’ I meant on top of that it would be good to offer the opportunity to speak to someone about a specific area they are interested in, which I don’t think was made very clear i.e finance, outreach, history – I think perhaps this could be connected to the friend system? But again, this needs some organising and energy.

Assuming it is, but just in case a lil explanation of what a co-op is could be nice “A co-op is a business or organisation that’s owned and controlled by its members, to meet their shared needs. The members can be its customers, employees, residents or suppliers, who have a say in how the co-op is run”: https://www.uk.coop/understanding-co-ops/what-co-op.

>
> - Have a bit at the beginning saying summin like “There are mushrooms dotted around this document. This is because mushrooms are a symbol of working together/collaboratively which is what is needed for co-ops. Mushrooms are a literal and metaphorical symbol of hope/growth for co-operative living”.
