It seems 1.1.28 does leak memory too:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
15580 misiek 25 0 405m 189m 10m R 89.8 50.2 45:17.66 bins

This is how the process looked after processing about 1200 images.

I've tried 1.1.27 for comparsion and after similar time of work the
process status is as follows:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
17186 misiek 18 0 39140 30m 10m R 81.3 8.1 45:46.03 bins

Note that in same time it processed several times more pictures than
1.1.28, probably due to much less swapping caused by smaller memory
footprint.

If I can perform any other test to help solve this issue please let me
know.
