[SlugBug] mail problem

hi

the scenario is that only root can send mail from a server that i am
working on.

> [bill at test bill]$ echo "mail test" | mail user at domain.com -s "mail test"
> [bill at test bill]$ /usr/sbin/sendmail: Permission denied

i have postfix installed which has been aliased to sendmail and the
permissions look correct to me, thus:

> [root at test root]# ls /usr/sbin/sendmail -la
> lrwxrwxrwx  1 root root 21 Aug 13  2004 /usr/sbin/sendmail -> /etc/alternatives/mta
> [root at test root]# ls /usr/sbin/postfix -la
> -rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 64336 Mar 31  2004 /usr/sbin/postfix

root can send mail fine to both local and external users so i think this
  _has_ to be some sort of permissions problem. i have suspended
SELinux from running which was preventing Apache sending mail - the
original problem.

any ideas at all?

TIA

bill
