hi

ok - my attempt at quoting the problem text didn't really work so this 
is a little better (but not perfect):

basically i have a data file which is 12 columns across as opposed to 
the 6 columns in the example above. i want to chop off all but the first 
two columns, remove any blank lines and then do a unique sort - so from 
the above i would end up with:

> Date: 051205
> Date: 061205
> Date: 081205

i think you get the idea.
