Dear Madam/Sir,

The BCS Wireless Information Technology Specialist Group (WITSG) has the
pleasure of inviting you to attend the round table discussion entitled “WiFi
(un)Stabaility", chaired by Dr. Stephen Castell (Castell Consulting). The
event will take place on the 9th of September 2004 and will feature the
following guests: Mr. Giles Norman (IBM), Mr. Richard Lanyon-Hogg (IBM) and
Mr. Immo Hüneke (Zulke Engineering). The composition of the discussion group
is not yet final.

Abstract: 'WiFi usability: if you can pop a SIM card into a mobile phone and
be wirelessly connected and operational within minutes, why is getting your
laptop or palmtop wifi-activated (e.g. at a new hotspot) so fiendishly,
nerdishly and techily difficult...?' A Bemused WiFi Enthusiast

Practical demonstration of the problem - everyone to bring along their
laptops, notebooks, palmtops... (assuming meeting is being held at a WiFi
Hotspot).

Is it any better with other wireless technologies: Bluetooth, Firewire,
GPRS
? If so, why, and can WiFi be made as simple as these?

What would it take to make all wireless IT truly user-friendly?

Oh, and what about security of WiFi and other wireless networking
? And are
we not just opening up the world to a flood of Mobile Spam?

Isn't wireless IT/networking just another area for user/customer
dissatisfaction and software/systems disputes...?
