try:
$ apt-cache search irssi

and see if anything is suitable

You can get details of individual packages with:
$ apt-cache show [packagename]

Also, try editing your /etc/apt/sources.list and changing stable to
unstable (not reccomended for servers and critical systems)
Then doing:
# apt-get update
and the above two commands again.

If there is still nothing suitable, I'll convert a .deb to a .rpm and
e-mail it over.
