There is currently a way you can help Sheffield Renewables win £100,000.  We are taking part in a national competition called EnergyShare.  All we need is for you to vote for us. We need your support to help realise more renewable energy in Sheffield! 

Sheffield Renewables, a social enterprise co-operative, is raising £500,000 to build a hydro-electric scheme on the river Don near Meadowhall. Called 'Jordan Dam Hydro',

  a.. it is expected to generate as much electricity as used by 80 homes 
  b.. it will save about 170 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year 
  c.. any profits from electricity sales will help to develop more local green energy

We are through to the final of energyshare, a national funding competition where everyone can vote for us to receive a £100,000 grant towards the scheme. The winner will be announced at the beginning of December. We need more votes than our 5 competitors to win our category. We need lots and lots of people to help so please use this email, our animation, blog articles, Face book posts and Tweets to help involve everyone you know. There will be daily giveaways of River Cottage goodies so you might also win something for yourself.

Others you can vote for at the same time

Millhouses Mill Buildings, based in Millhouses Park, is another local scheme in the

competition. If successful, they will be installing renewable energy technologies as part of the refurbishment of park buildings. They are in the 'small' project category so you can vote for them at the same time. www.energyshare.com/millhouses-mill-buildings/

 

You might also consider voting for Tutbury Ecopower in the medium category. We've worked alongside them as part of Co-operatives UK's project on Community Shares, and think their energyshare bid sounds very exciting. www.energyshare.com/tuburyecopowercouk/
