this might be of use, if not already mentioned:

there is no option in Hugin to set the process priority of the programs it launches (so that stitching is processed in
background).

With window, you can use "ProcessSwitch"
It allows predefined programs (executables) of your choice to run in a specified priority mode (IDLE, HIGH, REALTIME,
NORMAL). Absolute control for how CPU resources are allocated to any applications.
