I strongly disagree. I really like the preview being a separate window. I
have a dual head setup and being able to have the main part of Hugin on one
screen and the preview on the other really works very well with a multi head
display. For me moving this to a tab and eliminating the preview window
would have a significant negative impact on the usability of Hugin. I
realize that the current way the preview window is handled may not work well
on single display setups. But it works really well on multi-display setups.
Please don't cripple the UI for those of us with multi-head displays.

One other general comment about Hugin UI. The Hugin UI is IMO not nearly as
bad as some seem to be making it out to be. It is not perfect but I also
believe that it is not in need of a major rewrite. Rather what it needs is
more along the lines of refinements. I am much more concerned about core
functionality and stability than I am about the UI. There is still much work
that needs to be done to Nona for example.
