Have just written the following report for The Occupied Times.

Hope you like. Any comments welcome. Have done it from me and not
Occupy Manchester as they needed it asap so no time to get it approved
by the GA.

OCCUPY MANCHESTER 12M MON$T£R MADN€$$

Saturday 12M saw MON$T£R MADN€$$ take over Piccadilly Gardens in
Manchester city centre.

Occupy Manchester constructed the huge monster in solidarity with the
Global day of action. The many tentacled noctopi was a pop up
exhibition space designed as street notice board on which to display
protest art and to highlight the many areas the madness of the system
is effecting including: democracy, poverty, the environment, banking,
the NHS and housing.

As soon as the monster was heaved upright, a large crowd was drawn
into the art action, well you couldn’t really miss it, it took up a
whole corner of the gardens. Members of the public were given paints,
markers and paper to create their own protest posters and slogans & to
express how they were feeling, which they then pinned to the monster.
Occupy Manchester had also been sent posters from the Occupy movement
& 12M events around the World including Portugal, Spain and London,
which were pinned up in unity with friends around the Globe. There was
a real buzz of excitement and activity as people stuck hundreds of
posters all over the body and legs of the monster and others gathered
round to read them.

Whilst the sun shone down on the only dry day for weeks (the sun
surely does shine on the righteous) music played over the PA system,
lively discussion took place in the crowd and speakers took to the
mic, including; people from the Occupy Manchester network, regular
faces from the Manchester activist community, Love Police main man
Charlie Vietch and an eloquent young person who had been passing by.
They talked about issues from poverty to the State, to the banking
crisis and how the austerity measures are effecting them, part of the
GlobalMay Manifesto was also read out.

There was a positive and uplifting feeling in the air as the day saw
many old and new faces come together to participate, it was exciting
to see many friends from Spain and also inspiring to see so many young
people getting involved. The day showed how art can bring people
together to participate in creative protest.

The MON$T£R survived to live another day, watch out for it at an
Occupy near you soon!
