Lord Owen throws the NHS a lifeline with last
minute amendment. Here's how you can help him:

Lord Owen, the leading opponent
of the NHS Bill in the House of Lords will attempt one last deed to slow
the passage of this NHS Bill. He has introduced an amendment (here) into
the House of Lords that the entire NHS Bill be paused until the NHS Risk
Register is published. This is because Lord Owen is fearful that the risks
contained within the report are so grave that they should be considered and
debated first, before the bill proceeds. We need you to contact the Lib Dem
peers and ask them to support Lord Owen's amendment.

Lord Owen has the law on his
side. Twice now, both in November and last week, the Information Commissioner,
and then Information Tribunal, judged that it was in the public interest that
the NHS Risk Register be made public. But twice Andrew Lansley has refused to
implement the ruling. Tonight's debate in the House of Lords will take place
from 7.30pm, but the good news is that the vote on Lord Owen's amendment will
not take place until Monday. This gives us plenty of time to lobby the peers in
the House of Lords to support the motion. Please use the gadget below created by
@BrianFMoylan to send each Lib Dem peer an email asking them to support Lord
Owen's amendment. You can alter the wording of the email if you wish & if
you would prefer to write your own letters, then email eclarke04 at qub.ac.uk and I
will provide you with a list of peers email addresses.
