[meersbrook-house] meersbrook-house Digest, Vol 3, Issue 8

Hi all,

Thank you for making a start on this Liz, I think you have done a great job.

I agree with Joy that we should continue to say that we aim to ensure our group is as representative as possible, after all, this is one of the aims that we have agreed and is the whole point of us holding a public meeting. This doesn't imply that we agree with some supposed criticism about us being 'self selected', only that we are striving for participation from as wide a cross section of our community as possible and this is a GOOD thing.

I think it is also important that we don't give the impression that the public meeting itself is the opportunity to shape the future of Meersbrook Hall, as we have no power at the moment to change anything. All we are doing is getting organised in order to present the strongest possible case on behalf of our community in preparation for the SCC public consultation.

It would be really helpful if someone were willing to act as first point of contact and add an email address to the press release rather than just the forum address (though I agree this is a good thing also). This would ideally be someone who is able to check and respond to emails frequently - I'm afraid I just don't have the time to offer this myself, anyone else?

Thanks
Laura

We need to be very careful not to imply in any way that we are not representative of our communities. There were 60 people who attend the 1st meeting along with the 2 councillors. As I have mentioned in the last steering group meeting, it was very devisee, from my point of view, the statement Kate M has made privately to one of the members of the steering group. Afraid, I do not remember his name.

There was growing concern about what will happen to the Hall when the Parks, Woodlands and Countryside Department move out. There is also concern that the Pavilion won't continue to be maintained due to cuts in council budget. The daily childrens activities that happen in the Pavilion are essential to the community. Many people also feel that the Hall which was left in trust by the Ruskin Society to the people of Sheffield should be kept as a community building and not sold off to a private owner.

Our first meeting was attended by 2 of the area councillors. We have met a number of times now to work on strategy, a skills base and towards a Public Meeting in September to raise awareness and collect ideas. We hope to form a group that is representative of the community and reflects what local people feel. We will be publicising the event nearer the time, but if you have any thoughts or want to get involved please email....

Our first meeting was attended by 2 of the area councillors and 60 residents of the area. We have met a number of times now to work on a strategy. Would you like to see Meersbrook Hall become a community building? A public meeting is being held in late September to shape the future of Meersbrook Hall. To secure the best possible community use for all those that live near Meersbrook Park and surrounding neighbourhoods. Join use at the public meeting and have the unique opportunity to say how you would like the Meersbrook Hall used for the our communities. Contact: We will be publicising the event nearer the time, but if you have any thoughts or want to get involved please email?.
