Subject: ICT4D Talk, BCS, London, Thursday 12th July, 6.15 - 9pm

Afternoon

I'm a volunteer committee member for the North London
Branch of the British Computer Society (BCS). I've
arranged a talk on ICT4D for next Thursday the 12th of
July. The start time is 6.15pm. The speakers will
have the floor until 8pm and then there will be thirty
minutes of questions followed by informal networking.

The venue is the BCS London Office, which is just off
the Strand. The full address is BCS, 1st floor, 5
Southampton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 7HA.
The nearest tube stations are Covent Garden and
Charing Cross.

Dr. Shirin Madon, Senior Lecturer in Information
Systems, London School of Economics
(http://www.lse.ac.uk/people/s.madon@lse.ac.uk/) and
Dr. Simon Batchelor, Director, Gamos Ltd
(http://www.gamos.org/) will be speaking. I'm waiting
for confirmation from a third speaker.

Shirin will provide an introduction to ICT4D and talk
about its theoretical underpinnings in IT and
Development Studies. Simon will talk through some
examples of ICT4D projects and discuss whether ICT are
really having a positive effect on
development/poverty.

The talk is free to attend, but pre-registration is
required. To sign up go to
http://www.nlondon.bcs.org/.

Thanks for reading.

Richard
