Subject: EURA call for papers on community activism and civic innovation

*Apologies for cross posting*

A stream on Community activism and civic innovation is being organised within the upcoming European Urban Research Association (EURA) conference to be held in Glasgow on 12-14 September 2007.

Community participation is an increasingly central issue within discourses of urban governance, and the aim of this theme is to bring together debates around the nature of community involvement and its impacts in the urban context. This relates, firstly, to questions around the impact that community organisations can really have on urban programmes, and in what ways there can be meaningful participation. Secondly, with respect to impacts, there are questions around the benefits of urban change for communities and whether certain groups are excluded from these benefits.
We welcome abstracts on the following and related topics:

- Community-based organisations and urban change
- Community leadership, citizen participation & neighbourhood governance
- The role of the voluntary sector and social economy
- Community capacity and social capital
- Reform of public services

Please note the deadline for submission of abstracts is 30th April 2007.

If you would like any further information, including details of other themes covered in the conference, please visit the conference website at www.eura2007.org.uk, or contact Maggie Reid via email:
