I first considered this a good idea, but thinking about it some more,
I'm not so sure anymore.  When I look at my gallery, I see that each
image only generates one such _pre file, but each image generates _3_
resized images (Lg, Med, Sm).  So putting the thumbail in another
directory wouldn't help much... you'd have to put each version in a
different dir (say, lg/pic01, med/pic01, sm/pic01, lg/pic02, etc).  I
think this *may* already be possible, actually, but I'd have to check
to be sure.

Anyway, I'm looking for comments about this request.
