Hi,

Just confirming the RH9 problem. 
Exactly the same problem as reported by Steve (attached below).
Nothing specific about RH9/perl install all default.

Assertion flags == 0 failed: file "Storable.xs", line 2336 at
/usr/local/bin/bins line 4137.

The previous message from the archive concerning Mandrake cooker
and Storable also happens for me on Redhat 9.

This is perl, v5.8.0 built for i386-linux-thread-multi

and results in a
